Becoming a successful leader sounds easy enough but it is not that simple. Being successful in anything requires a lot of hard work and patience. It has been said time and time again that great leaders are made and not born, while this holds true there is no denying that some people are born with natural leadership skills. Do not fret; even if you are not born with exceptional leadership skills, there are ways to becoming a great leader if you are willing to work hard on it.

Although it may come easily for some people, leadership skills are acquired through years of practice and enthusiasm. You need the right attitude to be able to lead other people. Leadership does not mean you need to strike fear into the hearts of your subordinates, there is a fine line between fear and respect and respect is definitely better than fear. Being a leader is not about bossing your subordinates around and just ordering things to do, being a leader is about how you execute what you know and what you need to get done without having to exude arrogance, being a leader means encouraging your subordinates toward an organized goal.

Here are a couple of tips you can do to help you become a successful leader:

Be Confident – Confidence is a character every good leader have. Exuding just the right amount of confidence will not only earn you the respect you need from your subordinates, it will also help you make them do things without second guessing you. If you are confident of your skills, then your subordinates will be confident of you too. Do not exude too much confidence though, because it might come out as arrogance and you do not want that.

Establish a good relationship with your subordinates – A good leadership is based on a relationship of trust and confidence between you and your subordinates. If they trust you and believe in you then it means that you are a great leader. Being friends with your subordinates is okay as long as you do not compromise professionalism in the process. In any work place, professionalism should always come first.

Learn to communicate effectively – Communication is important. A good leader communicates with his subordinates well. When you communicate well with your subordinates, it leaves little room for mistakes and fewer mistakes meaning that you are an effective leader.

Recognize your subordinate's skills – As a leader, you should be objective and when a subordinate exceed your expectations of him, you should recognize it and let them know that they are doing a good job. Positive motivation is the best motivation of all, and your subordinates will be happier, which will reflect how much of a good leader you are.

Remember to always lead by example and never ask anything of your subordinates that you yourself would ever do. Respect begets respect, so respect your subordinates and you will be respected too.
