Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment bosses will kick off a year of Batman celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the Caped Crusader with a batty publicity stunt at this month’s South by Southwest festival in Texas.

The executives are planning “a moonlight fly-over” by 1.5 million live bats.

The Batman celebrations will also include the hardcover release of “Detective Comics: 80 Years of Batman – The Deluxe Edition”, which will feature a history of “The Dark Knight”, who made his debut in Detective Comics issue No. 27 back in March, 1939, and the 30th anniversary of Tim Burton’s 1989 movie “Batman”, which starred Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

Meanwhile, the comic book superhero’s nemesis, the “Joker“‘s first stand-alone movie will open in theatres on October 4, and director Matt Reeves is working on the latest Batman movie.
